Yoiks! Another SLAPP
lawsuit !
And are we flattered !
Accelerated Benefits Corp. (ABC)
filed suit against Gloria Grening Wolk and Bialkin Books in the state court in Ft.
Lauderdale.
They also filed a lawsuit against
Kiplinger's.
And they threatened a lawsuit
against Ralph Nader. ABC wants Nader to stop us from using his name and quotes from the
foreword he wrote to "Cash for the Final Days."
In this lawsuit-happy mode, ABC also
filed suit against Mitchell Perlstein, a Boca Raton attorney who is organizing an investor
class action lawsuit against ABC.
Now you know why we're flattered.
If you were sued, wouldn't you be flattered to be in such company?
ABC's lawsuit is similar to the one
filed against us in 1998 by Life Partners in state court in Waco, Texas. Both are SLAPP
lawsuits.
SLAPP refers to "strategic
lawsuit against public participation." "SLAPPers" usually are private
parties, big money interests who intimidate people from speaking out since the expense of
defending themselves can bankrupt most individuals.
Not only are we flattered but
downright astonished to realize that our efforts to protect patients and investors have
been far more successful than we ever dreamed possible. If we were not successful in
spreading the truth, these companies would not go to such lengths to try to silence us.
Imagine if we were ordered not to
sell our books.
Imagine if we were ordered not to post the information you found on this Web site.
If we have helped you by providing
this information, you have some idea of the danger of allowing these companies to
prevail--the danger to consumers like you.
If these companies silence us, not
only will we be denied our First Amendment rights -- the right of free speech and free
press -- but you will lose.
