That Terrible Paragraph in "Cash for
the Final Days"
Following is the paragraph
that (ostensibly) prompted the LaMondas to file suit in Ft. Lauderdale against Gloria Wolk
and Bialkin Books:
"Then there's
Accelerated Benefits Corp. of Winter Park, Florida (not to be confused with Robert Shear's
Accelerated Benefits Capital of Michigan, which operates legally in the states of
Washington, California, and Texas). The illegal "ABC" solicits both ends of the
viatical industry: insurance agents to sell policies as investments, and viators with life
insurance policies. The illegal "ABC" is aligned with Universal Concepts
Marketing Enterprise and National Exchange, Inc., both of which work out of the very same
office at Royal Palm Beach, Florida. This conglomerate also conducts seminars; their
seminar schedule includes visits to sites in North Carolina and to Newport Beach,
Virginia."
(Note: This was
published in 1996. Since that date, Fl-based ABC did get licensed in a number of
states, did profit enormously, and did lose its license in Florida.
But the company has never been licensed in California: the original statement is
true to this day.)
