Letter from a
Viator's Wife
Dear Gloria:
It's over! We have a viatical settlement, but it was not for the policy we planned to
sell.
(The broker) . . . really negotiated and pushed and pulled for us, helped us recognize
after spending literally hours and hours with us that we were vitiating the wrong
policy. She looked at value, premiums, worth, loan amounts etc. and just was incredible.
We were NEVER pressured and in fact, she recommended we turn down the first offer on the
first policy, even though I thought we should take it!
After shopping around to 5 companies and after much consideration with the broker, our
attorney, pastor, etc., we sold the Prudential policy because it made the best business
sense. We had already taken a hefty loan on the policy which reduced the value and the
loan interest was high. I know we told you we would not accept less than 50% and we took
an offer in the 32% range, but over all we were pleased. We were able to receive enough to
bring past dues on business and personal bills, cover old medical, and have enough left to
put away for emergency money.
