A company offers an income program with my investment. Is something wrong with this?

Probably.

Do you know the source of the monies used to pay you and other investors? Is it new money (from new investors)? Is it another high risk investment (9.86% !!), one that is liquid enough to yield income? If so, why doesn't anyone else know about this alternative? Will the company show you proof of the source, or must you take their word on it?

bulletFor how long will payments continue?

bulletWhy can you believe their promises?

bulletWhat happens if the company goes "belly-up?"

And, if liquidity is important to you why not invest directly in the vehicle that produces this income stream -- and skip the risks of viaticals?

NOTE: This page was originally posted in Jan. 1999. Now read about American Benefits Services / Financial Federated -- one of the companies that offered interest payments.
